New Years Resolutions – Energy Conservation

Energy Conservation Can Result In Improving The Environment In Murrieta!

New Years Resolutions - Energy ConservationEnergy conservation is not about making limited resources last as long as they can, that would mean that you are doing nothing more than prolonging a crisis until you finally run out of energy resources altogether. Energy conservation is sometimes confused with energy efficiency, but being energy efficient means using less energy for a constant or regular service. Energy efficiency and energy conservation are often referred to as the cheapest and cleanest sources of energy.

Energy conservation is achieved through behavioral changes, such as turning off lights when not needed, using household appliances differently, carpooling, and so forth. That said, to help you understand why energy conservation is important you should know that there are two kinds of energy sources we depend on renewable and nonrenewable. As with other definitions, the boundary between efficient energy use and energy conservation can be fuzzy, but both are important in environmental and economic terms. You may know what energy conservation is, but have you ever stopped to consider why energy conservation is important?

The Importance Of Energy Conservation

This fact has  not kept them from looking at all the other cost items in search for optimisation and, often, neglecting energy. Optimisation efforts have looked at manpower, general expenses, purchasing, other running costs, but energy is rarely in the menu.

This does not mean that they have done nothing to improve their energy position, often we find several programs in place, like:

  • Investments plans in new, energy efficient technology (in the core business)
  • Investments in side businesses having to do with energy
  • Purchasing actions to reduce the cost of energy
  • Audits to determine energy waste
  • Emotional communication to involve employees in saving energy

Once a company has run through one or more of these actions, there is often a high level of frustration in the management, why is that? What we hear from our customers is that investments, let alone one or two successful experiences, are not producing the expected results or investments plans exist, but cannot be approved because they can’t pass the hurdle rates of return or compete with badly needed investment in the core business. Energy conservation is an effective way to lower overall energy consumption, and the same can be said for improved energy efficiency.

4 New Year’s Resolutions for Improved Energy Efficiency

With 2017 right around the corner, Alpharetta, Georgia, residents are making their New Year’s resolutions. Improving your home’s energy efficiency should be a top priority in the new year, especially if you’ve resolved to save money, so here are some tips to help.

Study Your Utility Bills
The most important step in any new year is to recap the previous 12 months. Reviewing your 2016 utility bills can help you see where adjustments need to be made in your energy usage. If you tend to spend more on energy during the winter months, for example, focus on improving your habits during that season.

Weatherproof Your Home
Keeping your home safe from the elements is a must. This year, why not make one positive move toward weatherproofing your home? Ideas include upgrading your windows, waterproofing the roof, adding weatherstripping to doors and windows, or getting your home inspected for drafts. Even something as simple as using draft stoppers underneath doors will go a long way toward keeping that cold air out. See more here.

Energy conservation is broader than energy efficiency in including active efforts to decrease energy consumption, for example through behavior change, in addition to using energy more efficiently.

My clients have experienced numerous other benefits from making the transition — and some of these perks proved more valuable than the dollar savings.

Protect our children.
Switching to LED lighting is one of my favorite energy-conservation measures because it’s totally painless. Just unscrew the old bulbs and install LED replacements in the same sockets. It doesn’t take much to convince a business owner, and it comes with a more-than-acceptable ROI.

Set and forget.
LEDs last a very long time, so it’s amusing to hear astonished clients say they haven’t called an electrician or manager to intervene in three years. The truth is, quality LEDs might outlast the businesses that installed them. Read full article here.
